Dena 4 – The Gourd Banjo

The rediscovery of the banjo’s roots spurred a cottage industry in creating gourd banjos like those fashioned by Africans and slaves in the Americas. Working with Dena Epstein’s pioneering research, Clarke Buehling, Scott Didlake and Pete Ross created gourd banjos.

This clip, detailing the work of these three men, and some of their customers, including John Hartford and Tony Trischka, is an extra “chapter” on the DVD, THE LIBRARIAN AND THE BANJO.
