The bonus chapters feature Bob Winans’ minstrel work, the Dena Epstein/Scott Didlake/Clarke Buehling/Pete Ross gourd banjo story, Angela Wellman’s music school in Oakland and some outtakes too good to leave in my computer — including the story behind “Dixie” and the Jola legend that the Devil likes akonting music, told by Daniel Jatta.
