For five years I volunteered as a cook at the River Food Pantry, the busiest emergency pantry in Madison, WI. In addition to serving more than 75,000 meals, I served on the board, wrote profiles for their Web sites, created films and other material to support their efforst. The experience opened my eyes to the disparity of food distribution in the U.S., and the widespread hunger that exists among my neighbors.
